It’s no secret that we’re spending more time at home than ever – so what kitchen design trends should you take note of if you’re thinking of renovating in 2021?

Thanks to the ongoing events of 2020, the way we cook, work, entertain and relax in our homes have changed significantly. Understandably, these changes have been reflected into how we expect the spaces of our homes to look and function – and the kitchen is arguably the most important of these spaces.

Six Kitchen Design Trends To Watch This Year

While hygiene and cleanliness will of course remain a top priority, flexibility, storage and multidimensional space functions are also predicted to be some of the key kitchen design trends that we’ll see as we move forward into 2021.

Bigger Island Benches – If you were one of the many Aussies who had to juggle working from home and home schooling, it quickly became apparent that residents tend to congregate around the kitchen. In turn, bigger island benches have become popular to accommodate this.

Organic Style – With this look being built on the warmth and textures of natural materials, the concept is to encourage a vibe of relaxation via neutral palettes and organic furnishings. No longer considered bohemian, try adding more plants and wood to achieve this look.

Butler Pantries – Were you guilty of panic buying during quarantine? Many Aussies noticed a significant lack of storage in their homes throughout 2020, but perhaps none more so than their larders and pantries – but this is set to change in 2021.

More Light – Spending more time indoors isn’t for everyone, and has been proven to have ongoing effects on our health. A well lit home – including our kitchens – helps to regulate our circadian rhythm, and in turn improve our sleep cycles.

Bigger Sinks – Our pantries aren’t the only things set to increase in size this year. While they allow for easier cleaning and improve functionality of the space, larger sinks can help make a kitchen look more luxurious, particularly if you select stone materials.

Colourful Cabinetry – Gone are the days of sticking to black, white or grey for a kitchen colour palette. While warmer tones are considered to be “in” when it comes to kitchen design trends, adding a splash of colour to your cabinetry is a great way to breathe life into this room.
